Mrs. Clara Austin Merrick, 82, of Caruthersville, died Saturday at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 19, 1901 in Pemiscot County, she was the daughter of John and Betty Story Austin. She attended the Chapel School and later became a member of the Maplewood faculty.
She was the widow of Bernard James Merrick. She and her husband formerly operated Merrick Store at the "Y" West of Caruthersville. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 465 and Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. June Martin of Livermore, Calif.; Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, B.J. and Reginold Merrick.
Services were Monday at 2 p m. at H.S. Smith Funeral Home chapel in Caruthersville, the Rev. Allen Vancil officiating, with burial in Little Prairie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lawrence Pounder, Roy Bell, Edgar Boehme, Ben Burns, Tom Hill and Albert Milligan.
